Civil War Richmond
David George (Sobbing of the Strong) came down to Richmond today and I gave him the "Grand Tour" -

First stop - the White House of the Confederacy - then on to Tredegar Iron Works which was the major foundry for the Confederate government and continued to produce beautiful "wrought iron lace" railings and ironwork for many of Richmond's houses post war. The bright spot for me was to go down to what was the Florida Hospital during the war. Lew Powell was here from June 30, 1862 to October 31, 1862 for an unspecified illness. It is being renovated and we were able to go inside. I had been inside years ago, but didn't have a camera with me....today I did. Here you can see the original posts, beams and brickwork of the tobacco warehouse converted hospital.
