Don't know why but I link Thaddeus Stevens to this matter.

Many thanks to Steve for sending this Odd Fellows certificate. Steve writes, "It's an Odd Fellows certificate from 1859. The motto "In God We Trust" had been a motto of the Odd Fellows since the 1840's before Sec. Chase settled on that wording to be placed on the coinage in 1864.

You can also type in Bladensburg Peace Cross for info from Wiki. One note that you might pick up on when reading the history is that this monument to WWI casualties with additional recognition to succeeding wars is within walking distance of the War of 1812 Battle of Bladensburg site where American forces were defeated, allowing British troops to enter Washington City and set it ablaze.

I'm sure that most of the readers here already know where my conservative views lie, but we had a discussion at work the other day as to what the Supreme Court's decision might mean in terms of the millions of military cemeteries here and abroad that have headstones marked with crosses and Stars of David.

It was also surprising to me when this issue first came up several years ago to find that there is a Freedom FROM Religion Foundation. I don't have an opinion on that one way or the other, but it was another lesson learned in the field of civil history.

The Supreme Court will hear the case regarding the fate of the Peace Cross from WWI in my home county this Wednesday. I mentioned the effect that it could have on similar war memorials and graves across the country. The following video will remind us of how many on foreign soils could be effected also if the forces against the Peace Cross might find out that U.S. funds help to maintain these WWII cemeteries in Europe and Asia: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Omd9_FJnerY

Keep your fingers crossed that our Freedom of Religion principles are upheld -- I can practice my choice of religion, and my neighbor can practice his choice to be an atheist.
