"Old" Lincon movie found - Gene C - 07-27-2014 01:24 PM BettyO made a post earlier with a link from this web site. While looking it over I found this interesting article and film clip http://railsplitter.com/?page_id=3611 - film clip http://railsplitter.com/?page_id=3491 - article RE: "Old" Lincon movie found - BettyO - 07-27-2014 02:14 PM Wow! Great going, Gene! I have wanted to see this film for ages! I have the book The Dramatic Life of Abraham Lincoln by Anna M. Wright, which was based on the movie - and here are movie stills from the book: [attachment=813] [attachment=814] Love this still of the conspirators meeting in Mrs. Surratt's Cellar! [attachment=815] The Photoplay version (which I have a hardback of) is available here - but this looks like a different "Lincoln" than that in the film - this is a Mr. Billings and I think the man in the online film is a Mr. McGinnis? https://archive.org/details/dramaticlifeofab00wrig RE: "Old" Lincon movie found - LincolnMan - 07-27-2014 04:12 PM Gene: that is a fascinating movie clip- if nothing else but for it's value as an old film. It was fun noticing all of the errors as portrayed in the film. For instance, General Grant did not wear an officer's frock coat at the surrender. RE: "Old" Lincon movie found - Craig Hipkins - 07-28-2014 07:57 PM Interesting post! I found a little information on the actor who played Lincoln. His name was George Billings. Apparently he made a career in the old silent movies starring as Lincoln. He sure did look like him! Here is the link. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0082473/ RE: "Old" Lincon movie found - STS Lincolnite - 07-28-2014 08:31 PM Betty, I like the photo of the conspirators in the basement as well. Is that supposed to be Booth with the top hat? At first I thought Snidely Whiplash had been an unknown conspirator! RE: "Old" Lincon movie found - BettyO - 07-29-2014 11:35 AM That's hysterical! JWB DOES look like Snydley Whiplash in this one! One can almost see him twirling his moustache and saying, "Ya-heh-heh!" Lew Powell looks like a college kid, and Mrs. Surratt looks really concerned. Maybe she's afraid he'll tie her to a railroad track! The rest of the guys look really strange, too! RE: "Old" Lincon movie found - LincolnMan - 07-30-2014 11:27 AM The fact that we even know the cartoon characters named- is really dating us! RE: "Old" Lincon movie found - BettyO - 07-30-2014 01:25 PM Oh I know! Wasn't Snidley on Underdog? Or was it the Rocky and Bullwinkle AKA Dudley Do-Right show? Now I'm really dating myself! RE: "Old" Lincon movie found - Angela - 07-30-2014 04:24 PM Oh, those cartoons just made me think of another series about Lincoln and other characters in some high school setting. Can't find it in my files - does it sound familiar to anyone? RE: "Old" Lincon movie found - BettyO - 07-30-2014 04:51 PM Quote:...another series about Lincoln and other characters in some high school setting I think that was "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure?" Or something like that? I know that they had the Lincoln Assassination on "Family Guy...." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S29cHWgDiaw RE: "Old" Lincon movie found - Gene C - 07-30-2014 08:16 PM (07-30-2014 01:25 PM)BettyO Wrote: Oh I know! I'll look for it!
