RE: Surratt Courier - J. Beckert - 07-08-2014 01:58 PM I agree, Roger. Falwell's story is sketchy. I also enjoyed Louise's piece on the Fourth of July and Joan's article. Who knew having a womb could make so much mayhem? RE: Surratt Courier - CJSchoonover - 07-08-2014 09:12 PM Thank you Roger for the kind words. I was hoping people would find it interesting. Thanks again! RE: Surratt Courier - RJNorton - 07-26-2014 12:52 PM The current Surratt Courier has fascinating articles by forum members Bill Binzel (regarding Francis Scott Key's descendants and relatives) and Laurie Verge (regarding life in boardinghouses). Kudos! RE: Surratt Courier - Eva Elisabeth - 07-26-2014 02:53 PM I wanted to post the same! Loved both articles! RE: Surratt Courier - RobertLC - 07-26-2014 07:08 PM Ditto! RE: Surratt Courier - BettyO - 07-26-2014 07:33 PM Just got mine today! Yes - it is indeed wonderful -- both articles are excellent! Kudos to both authors - RE: Surratt Courier - SSlater - 07-26-2014 08:57 PM Before their heads explode with all the good things being said, please tell me where is "Berginia" . Gotcha. RE: Surratt Courier - brtmchl - 07-27-2014 07:54 AM Just read mine this morning. Great job! Is that a typo that I didn't catch? Please tell me where it (the typo) is. Believe it or not, that's what my daughter called Virginia when she was about three. She also used to say "underbella" until one day Joan Chaconas said, "I thought it was an overbella." From that day on, she correctly pronounced umbrella. I think I recognized the typo, only because that is the most common pronunciation of the word. Someone finally got it right.(07-26-2014 08:57 PM)SSlater Wrote: Before their heads explode with all the good things being said, please tell me where is "Berginia" . Gotcha. And I can't blame that on anyone else 'cause I do the 150 Years Ago section (and never realized how long that war really was until I had to cull the information every month for the past four years! Check again, though because I only got the B wrong, the rest of the word is spelled correctly. RE: Surratt Courier - wpbinzel - 07-28-2014 09:47 AM Thank you all (or if you are from the South, "all y'all") for your kind comments about the article in The Courier. In doing research, I kept running into relatives of F.S. Key and given the attention the 200th anniversary has received, I thought folks might be interested in his links to those around Lincoln. Those were just the ones I had found. There are likely others that are known or that have yet to be uncovered in the scavenger hunt of research. It may become a running tally of historical "degrees of separation." It is also quite an honor for me to be mentioned in the same sentence with Laurie, as I have come to recognize all that she has done to foster and support research in this area. And with regard to "Birginia," I happen to like names that begin with "B." Bill Binzel RE: Surratt Courier - RJNorton - 08-28-2014 12:24 PM Kudos to forum member Susan Higginbotham whose research on Peanut John is featured in the current Surratt Courier.
