Good news, sort of.

We are planning an abbreviated Springfield Tour this coming May 13-15.
On Saturday, May 14 forum members STS Lincolnite (Scott) and Dave Wiegers will be making a presentation at Books On The Square. https://www.booksonthesquare.com/store-events

A definite, tentative, flexible schedule is being developed.
A trip to New Salem, a visit to the two cemeteries where Ann Rutledge is suppose to reside is planned. Other sites, the Lincoln Home, The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum, The Lincoln Depot, Lincoln's Tomb and various sites will be visited to accommodate whoever joins us. Plus a visit to the famous Cozy Dog Drive In

We still are planning another visit later this year, sometime in early summer or October visiting some lessor known and visited sites.

Seems like I have accidentally repeated a story I thought was true, but according to the website SangamonLink, the story is incorrect.
The story is about Roy Bertelli - Mr. Accordion, who's mortal remains now reside at the entrance of Oak Ridge Cemetery (see post 326, on page 22 of this thread)

This SangamonLink is an interesting web site. This article corrects some of the errors previously reported from two different websites that I read regarding Mr. Bertelli final resting place.

Good News & sorry for the short notice.

We will be having a Springfield Tour this Oct 20-23. Definitely on the schedule, which is being worked on, will be a trip to New Salem, a visits to the two grave sites of Ann Rutledge (and other people who Lincoln knew well), Books on the Square and Prairie Archives - two bookstores in downtown Springfield. But wait, there's more.

We have plans to attend the Lincoln Legacy Series (we've never attended this before) on Saturday at 6PM.

We'll walk through the Lincoln neighborhood, visit his home, the Lincoln Museum, and one of my favorites, the Lincoln depot and unfinished mural.

No trip would be complete without a visit to the Cozy Dog Drive In. Had the drive in been there in the 1850's, it surely would have been a family favorite of the Lincolns.

In all the excitement of visiting Springfield and New Salem, I had entered the wrong dates,
now corrected to Oct 20-23, Thursday - Sunday AM.

The Fall Festival will be taking place that weekend in New Salem.

- As quickly as Fido's and my hair have turned gray, that natural dyeing might be informative.

Gene, I hate to be the one to break it to you, but the unfinished mural is no longer there. The building on which it lived has been torn down.

Nonetheless, still lots of good and unique things to do and see in the Springfield area. Some can be planned and sometimes good to go off script a bit too!

What a shame. That mural, which was right next door to the Lincoln Depot, was something I felt was really special.
I'm glad we were able to see it when we did. I always have looked foreword to seeing it. For those of you who missed it...

You never know when things like this happen. We didn't have a tour the past two years due to covid.
Things are always changing. Evidently Ann Rutledge's ghost is no longer at New Salem. The state of Illinois fired her for not having her covid shot.

Thank goodness the Cozy Dog Drive Inn, The Feed Store and Charlie Parkers Diner are still open, and our two favorite bookstores.

Judging the past by the present is pathetic and shows a complete disregard for the standards of the past, which were in some ways superior to those of 2022. E.g. respect. End of sermon.
