I believe the attached article I found on GeneologyBank.com will definitively prove that JWB was not shot dead in Garrett's barn in April of 1865, but instead, survived to travel the world. This article appeared in The Daily Albany Argus on September 12, 1873. Seems completely credible to me.

He was, no doubt, hidden in the secret room at the Surratt boardinghouse that few knew how to find by pushing a certain book on the shelves in the parlor. This lends credence to the thought that Booth did stop at the boardinghouse after the assassination -- only it wasn't to pick up a hat, but to be hustled into that secret room. It was a story that Mrs. Surratt, Anna, Weichmann, and John Surratt all carried to their graves...

For years, I have told visitors to Surratt House that Booth is still alive and living with JFK, Elvis, and Hitler on a Pacific island with Amelia Earhart as their housekeeper. This article backs up my tongue-in-cheek claims!

It seems the public just can't let people die- whether the persons in question were famous for good or for evil. Stories have abounded that deceased persons are alive (sounds contradictory): John Wilkes Booth, Hitler, Elvis, Tupac Shakoor, etc.

A quick internet search for Carroll Jackson Donelson, Carroll J. Donelson and Carroll Donelson only found the reference in Geneologybank.com. There is only the one article found. Searching muster rolls for the 8th Texas Cav, also known as Terry's Rangers fails to find an officer named Donelson. I think we have a Mississippi River story teller here who found a gullible audience. I hope this young man didn't play a few games of cards with Capt. Donelson.

You know, in my opinion Booth was killed at Garrett farm. His ego was too big for him to hiding in silence for the rest of his life like a common criminal.
