Happy New Year everyone- and as Red Skelton used to say: "...and God bless."

And wouldn't we have a better world today if we still had the Red Skeltons, Jack Bennys, Bob Hopes, et al??

RE: Happy Holidays To All
I thought y'all would enjoy reading the Christmas greetings that I ("Mrs. Surratt") received from my "lawyer:"

Mrs. Surratt,

Dear Madam,

I have just spoken with Mr. Stanton, the War Dept. Secretary, and he assures me there will be no difficulty in securing your release on bail, either tomorrow or the day following at the latest.
So set your mind to rest regarding your situation.
I am with you from first day 'til last. Be easy. You can count on me.

Respectfully,
Reverdy Johnson (aka Terry Alford)

See why I love my job!

Wow, how that didn't turn out as promised! I've never read that before. Do you know where the original note/letter is?

RE: Happy Holidays To All
Actually Bill, this is the creation of Dr. Terry Alford, whose long-awaited bio on JWB should be out within the year. This is Terry's tongue-in-cheek way of saying don't count on Reverdy!

Each year, I get similar greetings from Terry. When he calls me at work, he always tells my staff that it is John Wilkes Booth calling.
