Christmas Songs
Dave Taylor's BoothieBarn Boothie Carols has inspired me.

(a song of alternative history)
To the tune of Jingle Bells
http://video.search.yahoo.com/video/play...bv2m&&tt=b

(chorus)
Ray Neff says
Wierd stuff sells
So buy my book today
Booth didn't die in the barn
Somehow he got away ohhh

They didn't do it
And I can prove it
They were only hunting ducks
It's the perfect book for the holidays
And it's only twenty bucks

While making his escape
His horse fell on the road
Booth came tumbling off
And broke his leg we're told

What then could they do?
To urgent care they went
Since Booth had no insurance card
To Mudd's house they were sent

repeat chorus

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!

So when is this "Old Enough To Know Better" supposed to kick in?

RE: Christmas Songs
Dave/Gene: very funny! What Christmas songs today were also sung/played during the Civil War?

RE: Christmas Songs
Not to be confused with Laurie Verge. An easy way to remember Laurie's name is to think "on the VERGE of insanity."

Many years ago, I did an article for the Surratt Courier on which Christmas carols were around during the Civil War era. I know that I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day was one with a very sad reason as to why it was written during that time. I'll have to find that article.

Easy to find! Deck the Halls, O Come All Ye Faithful, and Hark The Herald Angels Sing have been around since the 1840s. It Came Upon A Midnight Clear (1850), Jingle Bells (1857), We Three Kings (1857), and this one is surprising - Up On The Housetop was written in 1860! I almost forgot Silent Night and Away in a Manger.

If you don't know the story behind I Heard The Bells on Christmas Day, look up Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.

RE: Christmas Songs
So "Little Saint Nick" didn't make the list? Just kidding. It's interesting to know what songs were being sung and played then. I would have thought "O Holy Night" would be one of them.

RE: Christmas Songs
For some reason, I think O Holy Night is a rendition of a French carol. I'm not sure what era it dates to, though. There's a homework assignment for those of you with inquiring minds...

I remember Hark the Herold!
Betty, do you still have the one of Santa Powell on the Montauk with a big cheery Xmas smile?

I didn't know the story, so here is an 8 minute video that I hope you find interesting.

RE: Christmas Songs
To the tune of "I'll Be Home For Christmas"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j7u5OqXKif8

I'll be home for Christmas
You can plan on me
Please have grits and
pickled pig lips
We'll make a new crutch
out of the tree

Christmas Eve will find me,
Hiding in Garrett's Barn
But I'll be home for Christmas
If they don't burn it down

Christmas Eve will find me
Hiding from the Feds
Yes, I'll be home for Christmas
At least that's what Ray Neff says

So when is this "Old Enough To Know Better" supposed to kick in?
