Passing of Steve Whitlock
I am sad to report that Steve Whitlock has passed away. Steve made numerous detailed posts on this forum. Steve's daughter wrote me and said Steve died on Thursday, October 7th.

RE: Passing of Steve Whitlock
Steve was a very good researcher, and especially interested in Nancy Hanks genealogy. If you go back and look at his posts, he had a sharp mind. We corresponded briefly. Like so many people I have met only through this forum, I wish I had been able to personally meet him.
His contributions will be missed.
I am going to miss him too.

So when is this "Old Enough To Know Better" supposed to kick in?

RE: Passing of Steve Whitlock
I'm sorry to hear about the passing of Steve Whitlock. He was an excellent genealogy-focused researcher. We collaborated on several Booth family and Lincoln assassination topics. As Gene mentioned above, he was also heavily involved in the Nancy Hanks Lincoln DNA project. He also made me aware of the DNA tests taken of the descendants of the Booth actors' family which were compared with descendants of Martha Izola Mills which showed no familial relationship. I had not heard of this, because it wasn't really publicized much.

Steve also took time to help me solve a genealogical problem in my own family history.

Steve Whitlock will be sorely missed.

RE: Passing of Steve Whitlock
It's a sad thing to have happen. It was obvious from his postings that Steve was very dedicated to his study, and while I sometimes found things to disagree with him on, I always learned from what he posted. He definitely will be missed.

Best

RE: Passing of Steve Whitlock
I received this note today:

"Very sad to report that Steve Whitlock has passed away. I know he was active on the Lincoln Symposium and thought your readers would want to know.

Steve was a partner in The Nancy Hanks Lincoln mtDNA Study and The Henry Reed Rathbone mtDNA Study; both of which can be viewed on the GeneticLincoln.com website. He was an excellent researcher who never gave up and will be sorely missed.

RE: Passing of Steve Whitlock
Thank you for sharing this information Roger.

The website link for Genetic Lincoln is interesting, even more now that I understand Steve's involvement with that research.

So when is this "Old Enough To Know Better" supposed to kick in?

It should be noted that Steve was also a decorated Vietnam Veteran.
