There is to be a statue and a dedication ceremony at some point- I think next year. The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War are very much involved in it.

Just an update on the statue situation. Fundraising is ongoing. The Kalamazoo Abraham Lincoln Institute has set a goal of $150,000 of which $141,000 has been raised. The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, Department of Michigan has embraced the project asking each Camp to donate a specific amount as well as whatever individuals may care to give.

The funds from the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War camps are still being collected. Just thought I’d let everyone know.

So the Lincoln statue dedication ceremony took place in Kalamazoo, last year. A new Lincoln statue was unveiled and there were excellent speeches given. It was a great Program. Sadly, within days, the statue was vandalized with red paint. That didn’t take long!
