Lincoln's remains under 10 feet of cement

Understandably, after the "kidnapping" attempt of Lincoln's remains, Robert Todd Lincoln sought and secured a reburial that would prevent a recurrence. So, Abraham Lincoln's mortal remains were buried 10 feet below ground near where his marble sarcophagus stands. The coffin was first placed, if I read correctly, in a metal cage of some kind and then ten feet of cement was pored over it.

Almost certainly, this will be how it will remain for all time. Removal would seem highly impractical and damaging to the burial chamber. Yet, it seems rather sad that the greatest American must be "protected" in such a manner from a danger that no longer exists.

I wonder if there has ever been a discussion of "raising" Lincoln so that his remains may rest in or just under the sarcophagus in his tomb chamber.

In that way, Mary Lincoln's wish to lie next to him could also be honored. It is sad that her tomb is relatively far from the President.

It just seems to me that the present situation is a kind of "burial at sea."
