Preliminary Project Plans
I am placing this preliminary announcement under the Legacy category because it pertains to the famous and controversial subject of Lydia Bixby and her five sons who were supposedly lost while serving the Union.

Steve Williams of this forum and I have been offering some help to a young gentleman who is interested in placing a small marker at the grave of Lydia Bixby in Boston. Her grandson is buried next to her, and his grave is unmarked also -- one stone could take care of both.

This is still in the beginning stages, and we are not soliciting donations at this time. In fact, a fund has not been set up, and one of the first steps is trying to find an appropriate history-related group to sponsor the project - even in name only - in order to lend credibility and hopefully set up a fund that would indicate responsible maintenance, not just crowdfunding (which really requires monitoring, imo).

We have a wide variety of participants on this forum, and I'm sure that many of you are members of history groups that might lend support (the Lincoln Group of Boston would be an ideal sponsor, or perhaps some Sons and Daughters units). If you belong to or know of such groups, please let us know for contact purposes when we get the basics under control. Again, we are not asking for donations at this moment - only creative suggestions for launching the project with a little help from our friends.

RE: Preliminary Project Plans
I really hope we can get this gravestone placed. Any ideas and suggestions for how to launch/run the campaign would be much appreciated.

RE: Preliminary Project Plans
We have three threads about Mrs. Bixby and the letter President Lincoln wrote her in
Abraham Lincoln - The White House Years.

I agree with you Laurie, she is a bit of a controversial subject.

So when is this "Old Enough To Know Better" supposed to kick in?
