My father was in Air/Sea Rescue during WWII and loved the B-17s. About ten years ago, during one of several break-ins by thieves and vandals, one of my favorite items from my family home was stolen.

One of the guys in my father's outfit had crafted a B-17 out of wood for him and mounted it on two of its guns' bullets. It was a fine replica and was displayed on top of a high boy in one of the upstairs bedrooms. I guess I was so busy packing china, silver, glassware, and family antiques that I forgot about it. I hope that the thieves have enjoyed it

Here's a nice eyewitness account from a B-17 crew member. Time for remembering those who served in all wars as Memorial Day approaches. http://www.eyewitnesstohistory.com/b17.htm
