Maybe they chained or roped it with the truck and pulled it over- like removing a tree stump. I doubt if there was any hatred for Lincoln. Sounds like pure vandalism for the sake of vandalism.

Vandals are no-minds at the study of history, but bright, when it comes to the destruction of history!

Thanks Roger, for following through and keeping us up to date.
As is the case in many news stories, the reader comments at the bottom are interesting too.

So when is this "Old Enough To Know Better" supposed to kick in?

Thank you so much for the update, Roger!
Jeez, the articles point to utter, senseless vandalism. Just to destroy something.
I just hope that the statue will be up again soon - and that those kids will have to pay for it.

In case of emergency, Lincoln and children first.

Vandalism never makes sense. No one should destroy someone else's property - private or public. I hope these two men are given an appropriate punishment for their senseless act.

I know I had mentioned in a previous post that vandals had stolen a Lincoln statue here in Detroit years ago. It was eventually found in bushes in front of a school. I don't think the thieves were ever caught. My guess is that they thought they could submit the statue for cash at a metal recovery place. Hillary Clinton was involved in raising funds for it's repair.
