Assassination relics from Ford's on auction
I saw where these from the Dow collection are part of a large auction set for this weekend (Nov. 7th).

It includes a swatch of wallpaper from the presidential box and part of the box's flooring.
Here is the link to the item:

Be sure and puruse some of the other non-Lincoln items as well. One that piqued my interest is the license plate which was on President Kennedy's limo when he was assassinated.

Another great item is this "mended" salad plate from the Lincoln China collection. Per the history accompanying the plate, it was broken when Mrs. Lincoln threw it at the POTUS. Whether that is true or not can't be proven, but it was then given to Mrs. (Giddeon) Wells by Mrs. L after it was glued back together.

It would make a great conversation piece if you have a few extra bucks lying around. By comparison, a similar (albeit unbroken) plate from the Lincoln service recently sold for $13,145 - http://historical.ha.com/itm/political/-...ion-071515

Here is the JFK limo plate that I mentioned above.

For some reason, I am unable to post more than one picture in a post on my iPad because all pictures are named "image.jpg" automatically and can't be renamed; thus subsequent pictures all share the identical file name as the first picture posted, preventing a successful post, and causing me to curse.
(If anyone can cure my ignorance on this issue, I would be most obliged.)

Hi Heath. I do not have any mobile devices and do all my work on a desktop computer. So I do not have an answer as to how to rename them on an IPad itself. The one idea I had was to ask if you have a computer. Can you send/transfer the photos from the IPad to your computer? If so, once they are on your computer's hard drive, you can right click on the photos and rename them anything you'd like.

Thanks for the Heads up, Heath! I thought that the "Hartranft Club" ribbon was pretty cool (and cheap besides!) So, Hartranft had his own private club? Wonder if there was a secret handshake to go with it! HA!

Heath, Roger is right. I also have an iPad and have not yet found a way to rename photos on it. However, I usually email them to myself and then rename; manipulate them on my PC. There is a NEAT gadget - half USB flash drive and half lightening connector drive which can be bought to transfer data as well as store data from iPad to PC and vice versa. I have one, it's called the SanDisk iXpand. I bought a 32 GB drive from Best Buy for only $50.00.... It works just like a regular USB flash drive and when you plug it into the iPad it increases your storage as well as lets you rename and move stuff about in new folders - great little thing to have!

Hi Heath - why can't you rename them? (I don't have an IPad, but a smartphone, should work about the same?!) E.g. via "file manager" app. Or you download a photo editor app, do some invisible change (resize slightly, or cut one little bit off), then you can save it under a new name.
BTW, you can get the picture into the post without the "thumbnail(s)" - frame when you put the cursor where you want to have the pic and click "insert into post" (under the box where you write your post). You can do that still now via "edit potst"/"full edit".

(PS: I would love such a plate, but actually prefer a simple, non-relict one for daily use.)

RE: Assassination relics from Ford's on auction
I noticed the opening bid on the Kennedy license plate is set at $40,000 plus 25% buyers premium.
At that price, I hope it's attached to a car.

So when is this "Old Enough To Know Better" supposed to kick in?

The JFK license plate needs to be on the vehicle- which is in the Henry Ford Museum.

I agree, Bill. I think such unique, historical artefacts and relicts shall be accessible to the public, and not vanish in the darkness of a private safe. I think such is public property and owed to the people to be on display.

Speaking of auctions- a document written by Lincoln containing part of his Second inaugural- and signed by Lincoln- sold in New York for 2.2m. Big money!

Regarding the limo license plate, a friend's uncle was Roy Kellerman. He was the SAIC in Dallas and was eated in the front seat of Kennedy's limo that day. He used to refer to that day as a bad day at the office.

If that was only a "bad day"- I'd hate to see what a really bad day was like!

"Hartranft Club": He even has a street named for him in South Philadelphia which intersects with Broad Street near the stadiums. A CVS and a local Social Security office or similar was built there on the corner some years back. Its an unusual name indeed.
