True History of the Assassination of Abraham Lincoln and of the Conspiracy...
First Edition: "A True History of the Assassination of Abraham Lincoln and of the Conspiracy of 1865." by Louis J Weichmann, Edited by Floyd E. Risvold (1975).
I am not sure how important this book is, but I was in one of my old favorite bookstores today and it had two First Editions of this book with the book jackets. They were in pretty good condition and I bought one. They were about to close and I didn't have that much money on me so I left the other one on the shelf. The bookstore is 50 miles away, but I am going back to see what other books they have, so if anyone would like for me to pick it up for them, I would be glad to. The very cool thing is, most of their books are 50% off till August 31st., including this one which is marked $24.95, so it would be about $12.50. Also, if anybody is looking for anything in particular, I would be glad to look for you. Sometimes, they have pretty old copies of things. I have missed you all. Martha |

Hi Martha. Thanks for posting. Personally I think this book is an invaluable resource as it's written by someone who lived at the Surratt boardinghouse. Weichmann talks about conversations, happenings, etc. that are impossible to find in any other original source. I find his recollections fascinating. |

I second Roger, it's a good book. And one of the "must have" books for serious Lincoln assassination study.
The hours and hours of enjoyment and knowledge you will get from it, even if you only read parts of it, are well worth what you paid for it. So when is this "Old Enough To Know Better" supposed to kick in? |

Thank you both! Just let.me know if anyone would like the other one. Also, I was hoping it would last longer, but Terry Alford is answering questionable on BookTV/Cspan right now. Thank you all. Martha

It is indeed a great account from someone who knew those involved. The correspondence with A.C. Richards also gives great insight to Richards, someone often just a footnote to the story of the assassination, but should be credited with much more.

Indeed a classic! Aside from Twenty Days (which started it all for me!) This was the one which really got me hooked back in 1975 - it's a wonderful account and a definite must have!
