The Civil War Trust Generations Cadet Conference
Thank you to Laurie for sending this information:
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ The Civil War Trust Generations Cadet Conference September 12-13, 2015 Pamplin Historical Park, Petersburg, Virginia. Bring someone between the ages of 8-18—your child, grandchild, or friend—for a FREE special event to live like a Civil War soldier, as part of our Civil War Trust Generations program. Take a battlefield tour, march in line of battle, eat some hardtack and sleep in Civil War quarters under experienced, professional instructors at Pamplin Historical Park. The event runs from 10 am Saturday to 10 am Sunday. Reading can only get you so far, this is a great opportunity to truly understand the Civil War soldier’s experience. Put on the uniform, don your gear and experience how soldiers drilled, fought, ate and slept during the Civil War. On the very same fields where the youth of the past had their “hearts touched with fire,” your youngsters will participate in activities designed to strengthen the virtues of leadership, teamwork, ethics, and responsibility—such as confronting moral challenges and leading their peers through tactical skirmishes. Key skills to be emphasized over the weekend: Leadership: Attendees will gain experience and learn new techniques for managing peers in extraordinary, historically inspired situations. Teamwork: From the outset, attendees will have to work together to successfully navigate the Civil War Adventures presented by Pamplin Park’s exceptional instructors. Ethics: Attendees will explore historical morality and compare it to modern times—learning about themselves by learning about the past. Responsibility: Attendees will finish the weekend with a deeper understanding of personal and group responsibility, or else! http://www.civilwar.org/aboutus/events/g...plin-park/ |

I'd love to have my boys attend. A weekend away from the X-box's, smart phones and other electronic devices. The educational piece would be tremendous, but I think they would also come away with a true appreciation of not only what they currently have, but what children/teenagers dealt with on a daily basis during that time period. |
