RE: Why (not), Mary?
Thanks Roger and Eva. Robert was a very private person so if he did discuss his thoughts it probably was in private conversations. The guilt he carried with him for not attending the theater and the trauma of that night would be enough to make him want to put this chapter behind him.

I agree with you, Anita. I can think of quite a few assassination books published during Robert's lifetime. He knew Osborn Oldroyd, and his book, The Assassination of Abraham Lincoln: Flight, Pursuit, Capture, and Punishment of the Conspirators, was first published in 1901. Clara Laughlin's The Death of Lincoln; the Story of Booth's Plot, His Deed and the Penalty was published in 1909. The Assassination of Abraham Lincoln and its Expiation by David Dewitt was also published in 1909. My guess is that it would have been too hurtful for Robert to read such books. I am thinking he knew the names of those conspirators put on trial, but it's possible he never knew many of the names in the assassination saga familiar to us now.
