Ford's Theatre Exhibits - Excellent site for those who couldn't make DC
Great exhibit - and great website - a few errors (I was surprised inasmuch as this is Ford's Theatre!)
David Herold was 22 years old - NOT age 19! He was born in June of 1843. John Surratt Jr. was 20 years old and was the same age as Powell (and a week older to the very day) having been born April 13, 1844; Powell's birthday was April 22, 1844. Minor things - still all in all the on-line exhibit is facinating! https://www.google.com/culturalinstitute...ic-moments Likewise, a friend of mine (Nancy Griffith - ex-Surratt Society President) went to a lecture the other night given by a college professor. The speaker blatantly stated that John Surratt Jr. was "hanged with his mother, Mary Surratt!" Where do people GET this stuff?!? Where do people GET this stuff?!?" ________________________ Betty, This reminds me of a lecture I attended last fall. The topic was "presidential assassins"; the speaker, a professor, held a Ph.D in history. When she spoke about Lincoln's demise, she made several errors and I was aghast at the lack of research and preparation. (I paid to attend this "lecture.") She identified Atzerodt as Powell and did not know how many conspirators were executed, among other inaccuracies. When I politely pointed out that her picture of "Powell" was "Atzerodt," she thanked me and then blamed the error on her research assistant. |
