The Lincoln Group of New York has planned a major event to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Lincoln assassination conspiracy and his New York Funeral. A half-day symposium, Saturday, March 28, will take place at the historic Cooper Union featuring presentations by award winning scholars including 2015 Lincoln Prize winner Harold Holzer, Lincoln Forum Chairman Frank J. Williams, a select panel (including Michael Kauffman, author of American Brutus) on the assassination conspirators, a special guest appearance by "Walt Whitman," and a keynote speech on Lincoln's Legacy by Distinguished Professor of American History, author of Freedom National (2013) and The Radical and the Republican (2007), James Oakes. On Saturday, April 25, Richard Sloan will lead a walking tour of Abraham Lincoln's NY Funeral Procession. This, too, is sponsored by The Lincoln Group of New York. The announcement notes that the sponsor is seeking permission to enter City Hall so that the participants can stand on the exact spot of Lincoln's casket.
