I went by the U.S. Grant house yesterday. It is painted over. Hope to post the picture soon.

I have a post card featuriing the U S Grant house from the early 1900's. It's painted red. I've never seen in any of the photographs of the house that it was ever red- always white. Artistic license I'm assuming.

RE: Ulysses Grant
The U.S. Grant house that he occupied while stationed in Detroit has been relocated close to downtown Detroit. It sits beside what is called the Dequindre Cut- which is a walking path that was formally a railroad track. The house has not received any updates at all. In fact, it is in pretty bad shape. I hope that in the future it received proper renovation. It is worthy of the highest respect considering it’s historical significance.

RE: Ulysses Grant
Bill,

How far is the house from its original site (where it would have been when Grant occupied)? Do you know if there is an historical marker that interprets the original site and/or the house itself?

I have an interest in Grant, and I'm slowly trying to visit more Grant sites.

Thanks for posting about this! I am not familiar with Grant's time in Detroit, so I look forward to looking some things up and learning more.
