A Tidbit of History from Mississippi
Danny West, a member of this forum, just sent me some interesting items on Civil War history in his neck of the woods - Mississippi. I'd like to share the most detailed one with y'all:
http://mshistorynow.mdah.state.ms.us/art...-civil-war This one will tell more about Fort Massachusetts - and remind you of Fort Jefferson. You'll love the quote from one officer: "This is a hell of a place to send 2000 men 3000 miles by ship to a sandy strip." Or words to that effect: http://www.msshipisland.com/?q=fort Also, try this: http://www.nps.gov/guis/historyculture/f...usetts.htm Thanks, Danny, for sending these. Stories of Civil War soldiers are very appropriate on this Memorial Day. |

RE: A Tidbit of History from Mississippi
Facinating! Thanks Danny and Laurie....
Fort Massachusetts most certainly does look too much like Fort Jefferson! "The Past is a foreign country...they do things differently there" - L. P. Hartley |
