Can a raccoon be domesticated?

I don't think so. Anyone ever read the book Rascal by Sterling North? (I loved it)

So when is this "Old Enough To Know Better" supposed to kick in?

They (along with de-scented skunks) make excellent pets.

Gene: I haven't heard of the book you mentioned. I just assumed that a raccoon- like other wild animals- is a dangerous animal to have as a pet. You see those shows on TV where someone domestics a creature and eventually gets hurt or killed.

Before we make a final decision on this there is an interview with a raccoon here.

Roger, after reading that- I think I'll pass on having a raccoon as a pet. Ill stick to my dogs and my hairless cats.

RE: What did Mr. Lincoln enjoy doing?
The raccoon that was interviewed sounds just like my grandson's dog - a Puggle, a cross between a Pug and a Beagle. Or, as one veterinarian told my daughter, "Two breeds that should never meet, let alone breed!" It took three years, but Brody is now a doll to live with. The beagle howl comes out when he wants to be fed, to have his ball retrieved from under the dresser or bed, or when he's riding in the car with you and you go slower than 60 mph. This dog was bred for speed. No problem with that in this family.

Oh, no. Any veterinarian would skin me alive if I had ever let any of my dogs stick their heads out of a moving car. He doesn't get to sit in my lap while I'm driving either.

RE: What did Mr. Lincoln enjoy doing?
Take it from me, some of the mailboxes on these narrow country roads are awfully close to the edge of the road.
Plus if you have a dog that likes to drool, well let's just say you don't want them in the front seat if you're in the back seat.
And last but not least, the side mirrors on the passing cars are a lot closser than you think.
