Sweet Tooth
I just received a magazine in the mail that is issued by the Illinois Farm Bureau. This particular issue was mostly about hidden Lincoln gems throughout the state of IL. The article that followed was entitled "Presidential Desserts," with the story and recipes by Charlyn Fargo.

Just a fun article, but I will be hinting to my wife for the apple pie with hot rum sauce for Thanksgiving this year.

recipes and article can be seen here:

RE: Sweet Tooth
After reading the article Mike posted I was curious about all the sugar purchases, and I checked Harry Pratt's book on the Lincolns' finances/expenditures. Here is an example of one month's sugar purchases. All of these purchases were from the at C.M. & S. Smith store in Springfield during the month of January, 1859.

January 4 - purchase of 10 pounds of sugar
January 13 - purchase of 6 pounds of crushed sugar
January 15 - purchase of 11 pounds of sugar
January 25 - purchase of 11 pounds of sugar
January 31 - purchase of 6 pounds of sugar

So when is this "Old Enough To Know Better" supposed to kick in?

RE: Sweet Tooth
That indeed was a lot of sugar. Wonder if it was cane or brown sugar?

Thanks Gene. That makes it easier to get to. I thought I put the website on there, but my brain hasn't been working correctly lately. This house has been battling the flu.

Roger, thanks for the sugar consumption. When I first read the article I thought it was a crazy amount of sugar. I first thought of posting on a thread about Mary's sanity.
