RE: Booth escape route north
When I first red post 93, I thought to myself that Laurie has finally cracked-up and that I better be kind to her. I was afraid that she may lose her job. Then, a few posts down I learned she was creating confusion to promote her ideas.

Laurie says, "I would also suggest that, now that you have a taste of dealing with theories, we not devote this wonderful site to comments and opinions that can confuse the real evidence." Laurie, your evidence is opinion dressed up as fact. If you know the truth, stop playing games and present your arguments without confusion and superfluous information.

I noticed you that while you commented on Laurie's post 93, you totoally ignored my post #70. I'll try to get over it.

Troy, you just seem to enjoy stirring things up and watching the reaction you get. That's a shame, I was hoping your arguments had more substance and that you could bring more to this discussion group than that.

So when is this "Old Enough To Know Better" supposed to kick in?

Troy, the purpose of the forum is for folks to have a civil place to discuss/debate issues regarding Lincoln's life, family, assassination, etc. Many of the posts over the past year...probably the majority...are simply peoples' opinions based on their own reading, life experiences, etc. We are all doing the best we can at getting to the truth, but many of the topics are tough to nail down as the evidence leads in different directions. Nobody is saying their ideas are facts and everyone else's are wrong.

As I read all the posts everyone seems to understand this except you. Other forum members tend to fire back at you solely because of the attitude you yourself display in your posts.

You have already presented the thought stated above in previous posts; it does not need to be done anymore. Please present your ideas in a polite, respectful manner without having a condescending attitude toward the posts of others. Thank you.

Yes Jenny it is Herold. Another mistake I made is on my book review. I said William Stanton, not Edwin Stanton.

Name errors make things difficult. I will try to correct my error on the review, but unless you convince me that Herold is less confusing than Harold, I will probably continue to use Harold because it is written that way in many government documents.

While it's true that the detectives were, literally, going by ear when they were writing down evidence and names, time and research have provided us the true names for many of the conspirators. While there is an acceptable level of variance for some of the more elusive individuals (Rittersbaugh, for instance) I don't see any excuse for not spelling David Herold's name correctly.

Also, I hope we are all aware that the "government document" above is a complete fake. This wanted poster was made by some modern digital artist and not by the government in 1865. It uses David Herold's mug shot from 1865, and John Surratt's mug shot from 1867 after all.

RE: Booth escape route north
Thank you, Dave. When the proper spelling of any name is well known, whether it be the name of a Unionist or Confederate, it is important to be correct in the spelling. When names are continually spelled incorrectly, I find it disrespectful to the person and his or her memory. After all, a name is the most powerful identification features a person possesses. As John Proctor says, "It is my name. I cannot have another in my life. How may I live without my name? I have given you my soul. Leave me my name."
