Terry Alford sent a wonderful link to: http://mydaguerreotypeboyfriend.tumblr.com/ because there is a photo of Lewis Powell on one of the pages (pg. 2 ?). However, this whole site is a rainy day project because it is 31 pages long with about 10 photos on each page. I got as far as page 10 on my lunch hour. Make sure that you hit "Older Posts" at the end of each page to advance to the next one.

Ones to watch for include a young Lew Wallace, F. Scott Fitzgerald in his military uniform (Reignette take note - the uniform came from Brooks Brothers), a Henry O. Nightingale who was supposedly attending Ford's Theatre on the night of the assassination, and many other names that you will recognize.

I especially like some of the texts under the photos. I even learned that Johannes Brahms played piano in brothels to earn spending money! The next time I hear Brahms' Lullaby, I'm gonna snicker...

One of my favorite textual captions, however, is under the ca. 1860 photo of the beardless Lincoln with a note to a portrait painter:

"Thought to be the last beardless portrait of the soon-to-be president, this ambrotype was made for the portrait painter John Brown, who wrote:

There are so many hard lines in his face that it becomes a mask to the inner man. His true character only shines out when in an animated conversation, or when telling an amusing taleā€¦He is said to be a homely man; I do not think so."

HAVE FUN!
