Licoln's Animal Friends
This is a childrens book written by Ruth Painter Randall. It has about 150 pages written in 1958. I purchased it used on Amazon. It covers much of Mr. Lincoln's life from childhood to his death. It's a nice children's book, several nice stories that show the compassion of Mr. Lincoln. No footnotes, no bibliography. This book is not very detailed, and focused more on his personality than his accomplishments.

So when is this "Old Enough To Know Better" supposed to kick in?

I liked Old Bob, the cats were OK - good for running around with, I wasn't to fond of the chickens.
Life was good back then! In spite of what Mr. Herndon wrote, it was a good, happy, loving family.

Does it say Lincoln kept chickens at the Springfield house?

Yes, Eva I bought mine used from Amazon and it is out of print. Can't remember what I paid, but it was less than $10. I try to get ones in very good condition when I can.

Bill, I don't remember chickens being mentioned. I would look that up, but actually that is an excellent question for Joe Di Cola, our guide for the Oct 10-12 Springfield Tour (Folks, there is still time to sign up) Come join us to hear his answer. Sorry, you'll just have to wait, I hope you can handle the suspense.
(sign up now and you can join us for breakfast and have eggs that came from chickens that are direct descendants from the chickens that supplied eggs for the Lincoln household)

But wait, there's more. Sign up today and we'll give you another egg for the same price as the first, but waive the shipping and handling. Yes, you read that right, another egg! Not only that, but a smiling, friendly waitperson will personally deliver it to your table. Friends, you can't find offers like this on TV. For more information see "Other - Springfield Tour"

whoops! I paid $12 for it. At the time I could only get one in "good" condition, and I didn't want to wait for a "very good" one to become available, if ever. For my purposes, it was worth it.
