As JFK famously told his brother Ted on his wedding day; "Being married doesn't mean you have to be faithful to your wife." Politicans and actors seem to view marriage differently than you or I. Marrying for social status is a big factor.

I think Booth knew that his days as an action-hero matinee idol would fade as he aged. Marrying into a political family would be a good career move.
