James K. Polk lived only 103 days after leaving office. He was 53 years old when he passed away on June 15, 1849.

President Polk was considered one of the hardest working Presidents we had. After leaving office, he and his wife decided to visit parts of the U.S. before settling into retirement. He got caught up in a cholera epidemic and died. He was buried in a mass grave with 32 other cholera victims for over a year.
