You're right, Eva, about men not wearing wristwatches in Lincoln's time. That didn't really start, at least in this country, until World War I, when soldiers who were in tanks or airplanes bought leather wristbands that would hold their pocket watches. Later, watch companies began making men's watches to wear on the wrist.
I have a Swiss wristwatch made in the early 1930s for use by pilots, and it's the same size as an old pocket watch, and initially had the front cover on it like many pocket watches had.
