Bettie Duvall it is. She's found in only two references: Web Garrison's Amazing Women of the Civil War and John Bakeless in Spies of the Confederacy. Her house was searched many times by the Pinkerton Detective agency during the Civil War, but no evidence was ever found. Little info is known about her after the Civil War; she married John Converse Webb in 1866. Moved to Minnesota, Catholic baptism after moving to Baltimore, buried in Oak Hill Cemetery, Washington, D.C.

Hoe cakes for everyone.

Blaine - Do you know if she was a native Marylander - especially of Prince George's County? I have often wondered this, but am too lazy to research it.

The name Duvall was/is very prevalent in the history of our county and also Anne Arundel County. Gabriel Duvall was an Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court, and his home is one of our "sister" homes open to the public.

Maryland through and through. County unknown.

Hmmmmmmmmm, hoe cakes.

Apparently, actor Robert Duvall - also born in Maryland - is related to Bettie Duvall (common ancestor settler Mareen Duvall). Moreover, on his maternal side, he is a relative of Robert E. Lee. Quite a lineage.

Duvall is one of my favorite actors. I think he's deserving of a statue. However, in view of his ancestors and profession (i.e., the same as Booth's), it would likely be quickly toppled. Tongue
