I don't believe in the 'Jewish influence' with respect to Southerners. New Orleans had a small population but you'd be hard pressed to find a synagogue in the other main cities. Catholics may have had a large population in Maryland but outside its southern borders it was practically nil.

So if you're looking for scapegoats in a much larger conspiracy the Jews and Catholics are easy targets, just as they were in England for centuries before America was even known to exist.
