Laurie, I would point you to the Doug Wilson chapter in the "Mary Lincoln Enigma" which goes over the course of the fighting. The flip side of the coin is that many authors have assumed they were constantly in a state of fighting, and I think the letter shows they were not until the Ann Rutledge lecture. |
