RE: List of Ford's Theatre Attendees
Joe, that must have been such a wonderful time on the bus tour with Dave! His enthusiasm and knowledge of the assassination story are really incredible. We went on the tour some years ago when we were already there for the Surratt Conference. The late John Howard was our narrator and he was excellent as well. We were able to stop at the site of the Garrett farm back then. It took a lot of imagination to think of that patch of grass as being where Booth died on the Garrett's porch especially with the traffic whizzing by.
How great that you were able to meet Mike Kauffman and have him sign your book! First hand accounts are tricky as I think our brains can only process so much of a traumatic event. The rest is buried in our subconscious and may come to the surface at a later time either directly or indirectly. I'm writing an article on William H. Bell and have found that "recollections may vary," as Queen Elizabeth said, some innocently and some on purpose. I decided to give the conflicting reports of an event if I have no corroborating evidence of what really happened. |
