RE: Children's Books
Tad Lincoln and the Green Umbrella by Margaret Friskey
Copyright in 1944, with about 95 pages, reading level around 3rd grade An interesting book, Lincoln fans will recognize several passages of familiar Lincoln sayings and familiar events in Lincoln's, and Tad's life. The story begins after Lincoln's election to the Presidency and ends in the early years of Lincoln's term in office. The story focuses on Tad's desire to have a pet goat and Mrs. Lincoln's disapproval. The green umbrella has little to do with the story, but with the twist and turns in the progression of events, we find how the goats play a key part as evets unfold. The green umbrella plays a significant background purpose that's not clearly understood until the happy ending to the story. It's available on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/Lincoln-Green-Umb...302&sr=1-1 I purchased my copy from Book's on the Square (My favorite used book store) in very good condition for $6. It's available on Internet Archives - https://archive.org/details/tadlincolngreenu00fris (you have to "log in to borrow", but that's an easy process) So when is this "Old Enough To Know Better" supposed to kick in? |
