RE: Abraham Lincon - Redeemer President
I didn't care for it.
This book received high ratings on it's Amazon page "A unique "intellectual biography" of America's most celebrated president. Allen Guelzo's unique intellectual biography explores the role of ideas in Lincoln's life, treating him as a serious thinker deeply involved in the nineteenth-century debates over politics, religion, and culture. Lincoln emerges here as a creative yet profoundly paradoxical man--a man possessed of deep moral and religious character yet without adherence to organized religion." I wasn't really looking for an intellectual biography when I purchased this. For me, he over emphasized many of his points. The book had a text book, research paper, feel to it. At 460+ pages it was a bit too much for me. There were sections I enjoyed reading, but on the whole it wasn't fun to read. I purchased my copy used and every page had at least 4-5 sections highlighted. As an after thought, it might have been required reading for someone's history class. You can find copies on Amazon and ABE Books and other sites mentioned on the forum https://www.amazon.com/Abraham-Lincoln-P...124&sr=8-2 So when is this "Old Enough To Know Better" supposed to kick in? |
