RE: Inside Lincoln's White House In War Times
Thanks, Gene for this review. Harold Holzer edited the biography and it is titled, "Lincoln's White House Secretary: The Adventurous Life of William O. Stoddard". It has more information in it than the son's biography and includes a lot about the social history of Illinois in the 1850's. At the end of the book, it has a section labeled, "Post Impressions" written by Eleanor Stoddard, a granddaughter.
Another fine book, that features Stoddard prominently, is "Lincoln's White House" by James B. Conroy. The book either won or was a finalist for the Lincoln Prize, I cannot remember off the top of my head. Thanks again, Mike |
