RE: Lincoln Assassination and the Michigan Executioners
That is indeed an excellent video. I realize the account of the hanging was taken from the Evening Star, which I used to deliver in my neighborhood as a teenager. As usual, contemporary accounts sometimes contained errors. I do not believe any of the four were chained or manacled as they were led to the gallows. I was also unaware of Mary Surratt somewhat sliding down the drop. That must have momentarily terrified her. It makes sense though since she was the only one swinging when the image was taken. Herold had foot troubles during the escape and it was reported that one reason for leaving Booth at the Garrett farm was to try to get some better shoes or boots than what he was wearing at the time. I don't know that he ever procured them before returning to the Garrett place. All in all a very enjoyable video.
