Just so we're clear, I'm not saying that having a strong opinion is wrong. It isn't. In fact, having a strong opinion about a historical topic is the lifeblood of historical study.
What I'm saying is that to assign a motive for someone's beliefs, unless that person has admitted to it, is wrong. To say that Burlingame has an ax to grind or even an agenda is, at least in my viewpoint, assigning a motive.
