The Surratt Society had David Richardson of California as its speaker in September. He is currently doing colorization of Civil War era photos as well as 3D. I know he's using modern, computer techniques, but perhaps he has studied the history enough to answer questions. If you would like to contact him, I'll give you his e-mail address.
