Good point, Steve. Author Andy Jampoler (The Last Lincoln Conspirator: John Surratt's Flight from the Gallows) writes, "Whether or not McMillan later embroidered his shipboard conversations with Surratt to make for a better story would be up to a jury to decide." (p. 75)
