Dennis, I don't think Surratt's actions regarding his mother can be considered cowardly. There was literally nothing he could have done, short of becoming a government witness, which could have saved her. If he had turned himself in he would have been unable to provide testimony on her behalf as a fellow defendant.

In regards to McMillan, I think we should be wary of his testimony. We don't know enough about his biography and character to get a gauge on his truthfulness. His testimony comes off as perhaps a little too good to be true. But then again a lot of criminals do like to blab exactly like this.

I do think his willingness to participate in the kidnapping scheme cooked up by Booth definitely makes him a potential killer. The only realistic way the plans to kidnap Lincoln could've worked is the ability to kill obstacles (ie people) if they got in the way
