RE: Tough Tarbell Trivia
In doing some research for my latest Tarbell article, I came across the following quote:
"As usual, I am in pursuit of Lincoln novelties. I go to Boston tomorrow to hunt up a speech which I'm sure was reported in 1848 in a Boston paper and which Nicolay and Hay didn't get. You see my whole object in life now is to find something N&H didn't. Noble ambition, isn't it?" To whom was Tarbell writing? Best Rob Abraham Lincoln is the only man, dead or alive, with whom I could have spent five years without one hour of boredom. --Ida M. Tarbell
I want the respect of intelligent men, but I will choose for myself the intelligent. --Carl Sandburg
