All the talk about Surratt's Garibaldi jacket in the other thread led me to find this 1975 article in American Heritage about Garibaldi and Lincoln:

Great article and thanks for sharing. Just to make my life more complicated, I have taken an interest in Garibaldi! And, it was nice to see the name of Herbert Mitgang again. He was a member of the Surratt Society for a number of years.
