I agree with Thomas, and I also think that Holzhauer was drawing in such a good audience for the show that they would not rig it to let him go. Millions of viewers were hoping to see him top Ken Jennings, and the producers would ride that horse to the finish line if at all possible.

When you read the details about the lady's longtime interest, educating herself to the intricacies of the game, writing a Master's thesis on how to win, etc., doesn't it just seem reasonable that she could win without any help from anyone else? James played the strategy of chance, and she played the strategy of sheer knowledge.
