I suspect the belief that the daguerreotype is one of the Lincolns is partially rooted in the mistaken belief that during the 19th century, only the wealthy and/or famous had their photographs made, which simply isn't the case (as most here probably know). Millions of perfectly ordinary people had their photographs taken, and the daguerreotype here appears to show one such couple.
