Today´s view of the conspirators

Many of us who are intrigued with the Lincoln conspiracy have a sense of humor to go along with it.

You are so right, Laurie! Years ago, Joan Chaconas, who also works at Surratt House and is a "real trip" and I were working at another period home - I think it was the Beal Dawson House. It was very rainy and visitation was slow. We were bored and made up a song to the tune of In the Shade of the Old Apple Tree

It went something like this:

In the Shade of the Old Gallows Tree

There are nooses for you and for me;

One for the Lady and three for the Gents

Your choice of clergy for penitence;


When the trap door shall fall with a clunk

You might as well face it, you're sunk

There is no turning back with your head in a sack;

In the shade of the old Gallows Tree

You could say we, particularly me, have a sense of Gallows Humor.....
