Very interesting, but I bet they find more stuff under that porta-john in one of the photos than they do under that tent. BTW, without a full map of the West Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania area in my hands, doesn't it seem strange that any army unit headed for Philadelphia would go that far northwest to reach their destination?

My favorite site of these was Lost Gold Ingots on http://www.coudy.com. I also found each story had some variations: from one wagon with a false bottom concealing 26 bars of gold under piles of hay to several wagons of similar construction carrying 52 bars of gold. The transport party also seemed to range from 42 soldiers to one soldier with 8 guards and a guide. One source says the group left Wheeling, WV in the early spring, another said early June, and another said near the time of Gettysburg. Finally, at least one source said their destination was D.C., not Philadelphia. In all cases, the reason for the long-way-around (be it D.C. or Philly) was to avoid the Rebels.

Even the Rebels get into another lost treasure story in Pennsylvania, however. There is one legend that a Confederate captain's unit stole 15 tons of silver bars and hid them in a cave near Uniontown. Grab your shovels, folks...
