RE: Trivial Trivia - taking trivia to new levels
Just a little aside regarding Mary Surratt's possible month of birth. At the Surratt House Museum, we have on display a tiny book of devotions that was supposedly with Mary during her incarceration. It is dedicated to the month of Mary, referring to a Catholic tradition of honoring the Blessed Virgin during the month of May. That leads us to speculate that May was also Mrs. Surratt's birth month.
James O. Hall was known for searching down minutiae, and he calculated her parents' wedding, date of their first born (son John Zaddoc Jenkins), and the possible biological time period of Mary's conception and gestation as the second child. He could not pinpoint the exact date, but the possibility placed her birth in the second half of May or first part of June. The book of devotions for "the Mary Month of May" seems to support that. |
