Kate, I agree with your post, but I think the same can be said for some of Francona's moves. IMO the one the helped the Cubs the most involved Michael Martinez. Martinez entered the game in the top of the ninth when the score was tied 6 to 6. The Cubs had runners on 2nd and 3rd with 1 out. Francona then put Martinez in the outfield and removed Coco Crisp, who has a weak throwing arm. Francona was worried about a Cub hitting a sacrifice fly, and Crisp not being able to throw out a runner from third trying to score. But this also led to the weak-hitting Martinez being the last batter of the game. If it were Crisp, I would have been worried sick. But I was actually relaxed as I told Vicki that Montgomery could handle Martinez (a career .197 hitter). Two pitches later the game was over. Who knows what Crisp might have done had he been the last batter. I understand why Francona made the move, but in the end, it really helped the Cubs IMO.
